• General description: Microtubule-associated protein RP/EB family member 1 is a protein encoded by the MAPRE1 gene in humans. It is referred to as EB1 and encodes a 268-amino acid protein. The gene is mapped to human chromosome 20q11.

• Biochem/physiol Actions: Microtubule-associated protein RP/EB family member 1 is a novel component of the microtubule cytoskeleton in mammalian cells. In association with mitotic apparatus, it may play a physiologic role connecting APC to cellular division, coordinating the control of normal growth and differentiation processes in the colonic epithelium. It also interacts with the plus-ends of microtubules and targets APC to microtubule tips. The interaction between this gene and APC plays an essential role in the regulation of microtubule polymerization. It acts as a potential biomarker and therapeutic target in CRC.
