• Biochem/physiol Actions: 28S ribosomal protein S22, mitochondrial is a protein encoded by the MRPS22 gene in humans. It is referred to as GIBT, GK002, C3orf5, COXPD5, RPMS22 and MRP-S22. It encodes a mitochondrial ribosomal protein. Mutation in this gene results in aberrant translation of mitochondrial mRNAs, which causes severe, fatal respiratory chain dysfunction.
