• Biochem/physiol Actions: ZHX2 (Zinc fingers and homeoboxes 2) is a novel ubiquitous protein belonging to the zinc-fingers and homeoboxes (ZHX) family. It is composed of two Cys2-His2-type, zinc-finger motifs and five homeodomains (HDs). It can form homodimer as well as heterodimer by binding to the ZHX1. It also interacts with the activation domain of subunit A of nuclear factor-Y (NF-YA). In the nucleus, ZHX2 functions as a transcriptional repressor to inhibit the promoter activity. Overexpression of this gene has been reported in the widely distributed liver tissues such as cholangitis, cirrhosis, adjacent non-tumorous tissues, primary HCC tissues, and matched metastatic lesions.
