• Biochem/physiol Actions: PHYHD1 (Phytanoyl-CoA dioxygenase domain containing 1) is a functional Fe(II) and 2-oxoglutarate (2OG) dependent oxygenase consisting of double-stranded β-helix fold and Fe(II) as well as cosubstrate binding residues. It exists in three isoforms. PHYHD1is mainly involved in the fatty acid side chain metabolism of chlorophyll. It catalytically converts 2-oxoglutarate to succinate and CO2 in an iron-dependent manner. It is indirectly involved in the phytanoyl coenzyme-A metabolism since, it has no binding site for 20G during hydroxylation.
