• Biochem/physiol Actions: P2Y purinoceptor 1 is a protein encoded by the P2RY1 gene in humans. Expression of this gene plays an important role in ectopic bone formation in the spinal ligaments of posterior longitudinal ligament of the spine (OPLL) patients. Activation of its receptors induces cell death and inhibited growth of human prostatic carcinoma PC-3 cells. It may act as a novel and promising therapeutic strategy for prostate cancer. P2RY1 has been implicated in development of heart disease and is involved in platelet aggregation and thromboembolic diseases as well.
