• Biochem/physiol Actions: Endophilin-B1 is a tumor suppressor protein encoded by the SH3GLB1 gene in humans and belongs to endophilin B family. It plays an essential role in apoptosis, autophagy, and mitochondrial morphology. It also functions in endocytic degradation of EGFR and chemotactic migration in breast cancer cells. Deficiency of this protein leads to suppressed programmed cell death and promotes tumorigenesis, also delays EGFR degradation and sustains Erk1/2 activation in response to EGF stimulation. In breast cancer cells, it promotes EGFR degradation by regulating endosome maturation, acts as a suppressor.
