• Biochem/physiol Actions: Reticulon-3 is a protein encoded by the RTN3 gene in humans and belongs to reticulon family. This protein is found to interact with BACE1 (β-site amyloid precursor protein cleaving enzyme 1) and its Aβ-generating activity is inhibited. It may act as a candidate protein in regulating the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis (AS) and Alzheimer′s disease. It may also be involved in axonal transport (increase of this protein causes its imbalance) and its accumulation in swollen neuritis.
