- Biochem/physiol Actions: Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (hCG) produced by syncytiotrophoblast cells of the placenta, is crucial for the maintenance of pregnancy and corpus luteum functionality.[2] Hyperglycosylated hCG (hCGh) not only promotes cell growth during implantation, but favors tumor growth and invasion in cancer. hCGh levels is indicative of malignancies like Down syndrome in pregnancies.[3] hCG based vaccine has contraceptive functionality.[4]
