Description
- General description: Serum amyloid A1 (SAA1) is an acute response protein. It is synthesized by the liver, during infection. SAA1 is expressed in the amnion and chorion of human fetal membranes.[1] It is located on human chromosome chromosome 11.[2] SAA1 encodes for the inducible forms of serum amyloid A (SAA) proteins.[1]

- Biochem/physiol Actions: Serum amyloid A1 (SAA1) induces the generation of proinflammatory cytokines like, IL-1β (interleukin 1 β), interleukin 6 (IL-6) and the uterotonic hormone proinflammatory cytokines and prostaglandin E2 (PGE2).[1]
