Description

  • General description: Sodium dichromate dehydrate (SDD), a hexavalent chromium compound[1] is commonly used as an oxidizing agent.[2] Chromium (VI) compounds are genotoxic and group 1 IARC (International Agency for Research on Cancer) carcinogen.[3] SDD is one of the common contaminants found in drinking water. Its toxic effects and carcinogenicity has been studied.[1][3][4][5]
  • Application: Sodium dichromate dehydrate may be used in preparing Jones reagent which is employed for oxidation reactions.[6] It may be used in the oxidation of arylalkanes.[7]
