Description

  • Description: A second major function for cytochrome c is its role as an intermediate in apoptosis, both through its association with inositol-3-phosphate receptor (IP3 receptor) which acts as an ER calcium release channel, and its association with apoptotic protease activating factor 1 (Apaf-1), resulting in the formation of the apoptosome protein complex which then recruits and activates pro-caspase 9 (Apaf-3)
  • This antibody recognises cytochrome c, originally termed Apaf-2, an evolutionarily conserved protein which acts as an essential mitochondrial electron carrier between respirable substrates and oxygen, during aerobic energy production
  • Clone 2G8 is reported to block the role of cytochrome c as a co-factor in the activation of caspase 9
  • Applications Tested: ELISA, Flow Cytometry (Intracellular Staining), Functional Studies (Blocking)
  • Cytochrome C is an electron transporting protein that resides within the intermembrane space of the mitochondria, where it plays a critical role in oxidative phosphorylation and the production of cellular ATP
  • Release of cytochrome C from the mitochondria to the cytosol is triggered by apoptotic stimuli
  • In the cytoplasm, the cytochrome C binds apoptotic protease activating factor which activates the apoptotic initiator procaspase 9
  • Cytosolic cytochrome C functions in the activation of caspase 3, an ICE family molecule that is a key effector of apoptosis.
