- Hyperphosphorylated tau is the major component of paired helical filaments, the building block of neurofibrillary lesions in Alzheimer’s disease
- Hyperphosphorylation impairs the microtubule-binding function of tau, resulting in the destabilization of microtubules, and ultimately leading to degeneration of the affected neurons.
