- The monoclonal antibody recognizes the light chain of the APC molecule

- It is a vitamin K-dependent serine protease that is activated by thrombin, a protein that promotes blood clotting
- Once activated, protein C proteolytically cleaves and inactivates factors V and VIII, which are essential for the formation of blood clots
- This process helps to prevent excessive blood clotting and maintain the normal flow of blood through the body
- In addition to its anticoagulant function, protein C has also been shown to have anti-inflammatory and cytoprotective properties, suggesting that it may have a broader role in maintaining vascular health.
