- Its main function is to present peptides derived from extracellular proteins to T cells for immune recognition
- MHC Class II (I-Ap) is composed of an alpha and beta chain, both of which contribute to the peptide-binding groove
- MHC Class II (I-Ap) is primarily restricted to antigen-presenting cells, including dendritic cells, macrophages, and B cells
- These cells are responsible for capturing and processing antigens from the extracellular environment
- Once the antigens are internalized, they are broken down into smaller peptides, which then bind to MHC Class II molecules within the endosomal compartments of these cells
- MHC Class II (I-Ap) consists of an extracellular domain, a transmembrane domain, and a cytoplasmic tail
- The extracellular domain is responsible for interacting with the antigenic peptides, while the transmembrane domain anchors the MHC Class II molecule to the cell membrane
- The cytoplasmic tail plays a role in intracellular signaling events
- HLA and MHC antibodies play a significant role in Immunopeptidomics, facilitating the identification and characterization of neoantigens through high-performance liquid chromatography coupled to tandem Mass Spectrometry.
