Description

  • Specificity: This antibody binds the amino acids 318-510 in the S1 domain of the SARS-CoV Spike protein as well as SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) Spike protein
  • The antibody also binds to P462L-substituted S318-510 fragments of the SARS spike protein
  • The binding epitope is only accessible in the open confromation of the spike protein
  • The SARS-CoV-2 virus, responsible for the COVID-19 pandemic, has a spike protein composed of two subunits, S1 and S2
  • The S1 subunit binds to the human ACE2 receptor, initiating the virus's entry into the cell and recognizing the host cell for the fusion process
  • The SARS spike protein S1, responsible for binding to the ACE2 receptor during the 2002-2003 SARS outbreak, shares a high degree of similarity with the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein S1, but there are differences in their amino acid sequence that may affect their binding affinity to the ACE2 receptor
  • Both spike proteins have a trimeric structure, with each subunit consisting of two domains, the N-terminal domain and the receptor-binding domain
  • The RBD is the part of the S1 subunit that binds to the ACE2 receptor, while the NTD is involved in the recognition of other host factors.
