Description

  • General description: Active hormonal form of vitamin D, formed by the renal 1-hydroxylation of 25-(OH)D3. Has immunomodulatory properties in vitro and in vivo. Prevents the development of clinical diabetes in NOD mice, which are an animal model of human autoimmune diabetes. Induces reversible hydrolysis of the sphingomyelin cycle and generates ceramide. Stimulates intestinal Ca2+ and phosphate transport and mobilizes Ca2+ from bone. Involved in cellular differentiation, carcinogenesis, and insulin secretion.
  • Application: Vitamin D deficiency or resistance and hypophosphatemia.: Discusses the complex interplay between vitamin D metabolism and phosphate homeostasis, emphasizing the crucial role of 1α,25-Dihydroxy-vitamin D3 in managing and understanding bone mineral disorders and their systemic implications (Sarathi et al., 2024).
