Description

• General description: A concentrate of dithiothreitol (DTT) in phosphate buffer. Useful for the isolation of pathogenic or saprophytic bacteria, fungi, yeast, and epithelial cells from sputum and other mucoid fluids.
• Warning: Toxicity: Harmful (C)
• Physical form: 20 vials each containing 10 ml of concentrated DTT OR 1 vial containing 10 ml of concentrated DTT.
• Preparation Note: Dilute the contents of one vial to 100 ml with sterile distilled water. Swirl gently to dissolve any crystals. If the diluted material appears cloudy, the solution may be filtered to remove any insoluble particles. The diluted solution is ~6.5 mM dithiothreitol in 100 mM phosphate buffer, pH 7.0.
• Reconstitution: Once a vial is opened the unused concentrate should be purged with an inert gas (e.g. N₂) and refrigerated (4°C). Diluted solutions, stored aseptically under an inert gas, are stable for up to 48 h at 4°C.
