- General description: Phosphatidic acid (PA) is a diacyl-glycerophospholipid, which consists of a glycerol and an alcohol moiety, having two fatty acids and a phosphate group esterified at positions 1, 2, and 3, respectively.[1]
- Biochem/physiol Actions: Phosphatidic acid is a major intermediate metabolite involved in the synthesis of membrane glycerophospholipids, including phosphatidylcholine (PC), phosphatidylserine (PS), phosphatidylethanolamine (PE), phosphatidylserine (PS).[2] PA is signaling molecule, originally synthesized in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) and is transported to the mitochondrial outer membrane to stimulate mitofusin (Mfn)-mediated fusion.[3]
