- General description: N-(7-nitrobenz-2-oxa-1,3-diazol-4-yl) phosphoethanolamine (NBD PE) is a fluorescent probe which contains NBD attached to the headgroup of phosphatidylethanolamine[1] and localized at the membrane interface.[2] Phosphoethanolamine is the second most abundant, metabolically related aminophospholipid. It is mostly enriched in brain.[3]
- Application: 16:0-06:0 NBD PE is suitable for the determination of enzyme substrate specificity of lipoteichoic acid synthase (LtaS).[4][5][4]
- Biochem/physiol Actions: Phosphoethanolamine (PE) acts as a substrate for several phospholipids of the cell membrane.[6] N-(7-nitrobenz-2-oxa-1,3-diazol-4-yl) phosphoethanolamine (NBD PE) aids in monitoring the Red edge excitation shift (REES) effects with its unique motional and dielectric properties.[2]
