Description
- General description: Phosphatidylcholines (PC) are the building blocks of eukaryotic membranes.[1] PC is an important component of the mucosal layer of the colon[2] and is a strong bilayer-forming lipid.[3]
- Application: TopFluor® PC has been used as a component in the for fluorescent studies using small unilamellar vesicles.[4] It has also been used in the preparation of unilamellar phospholipid liposomes.[5]
- Biochem/physiol Actions: Phosphatidylcholine (PC) functions as a surfactant within the mucus to form a hydrophobic surface to inhibit bacterial penetrance.[2] It is used to treat fat embolism.[6]
