- General description: Phosphatidylcholine (PC) is a strong bilayer-forming lipid. It the most common phospholipid in mammalian membranes.[1] It is also an important component of the mucosal layer of the colon.[2]
- Application: 13:0 PC is suitable for use:in the preparation of the giant unilamellar vesicles (GUVs)[3]in the preparation of lipid monolayers[4]as an internal standard for the extraction of total lipids from biological samples[5]
- Biochem/physiol Actions: Phosphatidylcholine (PC) functions as a surfactant within the mucus to form a hydrophobic surface to inhibit bacterial penetrance.[2] It is used to treat fat embolism. Phosphatidylcholine lowers the levels of cholesterol and triglycerides.[6]
