- General description: Phosphatidylethanolamine is an aminophospholipid. It is present in eukaryotic and prokaryotic cells.[1] Phosphatidylethanolamine is one of the most abundant glycerophospholipids in the biological membranes.[2] It is found in nervous tissue.[3]
- Application: C18(Plasm)-18:1 PE has been used as a lipid standard in the optimization of the liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS).[4]
- Biochem/physiol Actions: Phosphatidylethanolamine forms pure lipid structures,[5] which regulate membrane fluidity in eukaryotic cells.[6] Phosphatidylethanolamine plays a major role in autophagy, cell division and protein folding. It functions as a precursor for the synthesis of various protein modifications. Phosphatidylethanolamine acts as an intermediate for the synthesis of glycerophospholipid classes.[2]
