Description
- General description: The sphingoid bases sphingosine is acylated with fatty acids with varying acyl-chain resulting in the synthesis of 1-deoxydihydroceramides (1-deoxyDHCers). These deoxyDHCers are further converted to 1-deoxyceramides (1-deoxysphingosine) and 1-(deoxymethyl)ceramides. They are produced by mammals.[1]
- Biochem/physiol Actions: The 1-deoxydihydroceramides are hydrophobic and interact with monolayers and giant unilamellar vesicles. They modulate cell membrane and may affect their biological functionality.[1]
