Description

  • General description: Pyridoxal is a derivative of vitamin B6.[1] Vitamin B6 derivatives contain a core pyridine ring. Pyridoxal consists of an aldehyde group at pyridine′s 4′ position.[2] Pyridoxal is a water-soluble vitamin.[3]
  • Application: For the labeling of amino acids and their detection in picomolar amounts; Coenzymes and Cofactors, vol. 1: Vitamin B6, Pyridoxal Phosphate
  • Biochem/physiol Actions: Vitamin B6 derivatives are initially oxidized to pyridoxal. It is then phosphorylated to pyridoxal 5′- phosphate (P5P). Pyridoxal 5′- phosphate is the circulatory form of vitamin B6.[1]
