Description
- Application: A chelating agent useful for the determination of calcium in the presence of magnesium. Repeated washing with EGTA-buffer can experimentally deplete cultured cells of Ca2+.
- Biochem/physiol Actions: Ethylene glycol-bis(β-aminoethyl ether)-N,N,N′,N′-tetra acetic acid tetrasodium salt (EGTA) dissociates mucin complex and is useful in immunohistochemical studies.[4] It suppresses root growth and mitotic index in germinating wheat seeds.[5] It is used as a decalifying agent in root canal biomechanical preparation and is effective compared to EDTA and cyclohexanediaminetetraacetic acid (CDTA).[6]
