Description

  • General description: Red phosphorus is the most common allotrope ofphosphorus due to its relative stability compared to white phosphorus. It has a variety of uses including, but notlimited to, use as a catalyst, battery anode, flame retardant, and igniter.[1][2][3]
  • Application: Red phosphorus can be used as a: Photocatalyst for the formation of H2 from water.[4]Catalyst in the synthesis of tris(2-pyridyl)phosphine by reacting with 2-bromopyridine in the presence of a base.[5]Flame retardant along with aluminum oxide in recycled poly(ethylene terephthalate).[6]Anode material in combination with carbon composites for sodium-ion batteries.[7]
