• Determine the ability of an organism to split indole from the tryptophan molecule with Thermo Scientific™ Remel™ Spot Indole Reagent.In 1963, Vracko and Sherris used Spot Indole Reagent for the separation of Proteus species and Escherechia coli1
• In 1969, Lowrance, Reich and Traub found ρ-dimethylaminocinnamaldehyde (DMACA) to be the most sensitive indole reagent which could detect 3 mcg of indole per milliliter of medium2
• Spot Indole Reagent is used to determine the ability of microorganisms to split indole from tryptophan molecule by spot test method
• Tryptophanases are intracellular enzymes that mediate indole production by hydrolysing the amino acid, tryptophan
• This indole combines with DMACA to form a blue-green compound
• This is a condensation product formed by an acid splitting of the protein.Ready to use: Liquid reagent.Easy to interpret: Positive results (blue color) are easy to differentiate from negative results (pink color).Spot Indole Reagent contains 1% w/v ρ-dimethylaminocinnamaldehyde (CAS 6203-18-5) in hydrochloric acid (concentrated) (CAS 7647-01-0) and demineralized water (CAS 7732-18-5) supplied in 25 mL bottles.Not all products are available for sale in all territories
