Description

• General description: AKT1 (v-akt murine thymoma viral oncogene homolog 1) is a Ser/Thr protein kinase, and is also called protein kinase B (PKB). This protein is activated when it is phosphorylated at serine 473 and threonine 308. This gene is localized to human chromosome 14q32.32.

• Biochem/physiol Actions: RAC-α is an enzyme encoded by the AKT1 gene in humans. The Akt/tuberin/mTOR pathway plays an important role in the regulation of DNA damage and repair pathways that may predispose diabetic kidneys to pathogenesis of renal cell carcinoma. The pathway is also critically involved in cancer cell growth, invasion and survival.
