• Biochem/physiol Actions: V-set and immunoglobulin domain containing 4 (VSIG4) is a new inhibitor of the B7 superfamily. It is referred to as CRIg and Z39IG. It is implicated in the clearance of systemic pathogens and autologous cells. It is exclusively expressed on tissue resident macrophages and binds to multimers of C3b and iC3b that are covalently attached to particle surfaces. Its extracellular domain inhibits complement activation through the alternative pathways and function as an important clearance receptor. It also acts as a potential diagnostic marker of severe preeclampsia.
