• General description: YWHAB (tyrosine 3-monooxygenase/tryptophan 5-monooxygenase activation protein, β) is one the seven isoforms of 14-3-3 protein family. This gene is present on human chromosome 20q13.1, has six exons, and is highly expressed in mammalian brain. 14-3-3 proteins exist as dimers, are acidic in nature, and are ubiquitously expressed. They are phosphoserine/threonine-binding proteins, and are highly conserved.

• Biochem/physiol Actions: YWHAB (tyrosine 3-monooxygenase/tryptophan 5-monooxygenase activation protein, β) is involved in the control of cell cycle, diffusion and migration. It interacts with ADAM22, which might influence neuronal function and development. It is involved in the differentiation of osteoblasts, and bone formation. This is achieved by the phosphorylation and activation of YWHAB by homodimerisation of Ror2 tyrosine kinase receptor. This gene is up-regulated in vulvar squamous cell carcinoma, and is linked with poor prognosis. It is also up-regulated in gastric cancer, and might have potential as a biomarker for diagnosis and prognosis of the same.
