• General description: The gene TGM2 (protein-glutamine γ-glutamyltransferase 2) is mapped to human chromosome 20q12. The protein localizes in the nucleus, mitochondria and endoplasmic reticulum.[1]

• Biochem/physiol Actions: TGM2 (protein-glutamine γ-glutamyltransferase 2) is a multifunctional enzyme, which is mainly involved in calcium-dependent transamidation and deamidation reactions. It participates in apoptosis, adhesion and extracellular matrix changes.[2] TGM2 is linked with chronic neurodegenerative disorders involving neuroinflammation, including Alzheimer′s disease, Parkinson′s disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and multiple sclerosis. Up-regulation of TGM2 is associated with meningioma cell growth and tumor recurrence. Presence of antibodies against autoantigen TGM2 is characteristic of celiac disease.[2]
