Description

- General description: Arginine vasopressin is a nonapeptide.[1] It is produced by anterior hypothalamus nerve cells.[2]
- Application: [Arg8]-Vasopressin acetate salt has been:used as a vasopressin receptor agonist to test vasopressin receptors[3]used to evoke peripheral V1a receptor-mediated vasoconstriction[4]as a supplement in Ham′s F12/Dulbecco′s modified Eagle′s medium for proximal tubule and glomerular explant cell culture[5]
- Biochem/physiol Actions: Endogenous antidiuretic hormone in most mammalian species. It is released into the blood from nerve terminals in the posterior pituitary and median eminence. Arg8-vasopressin is also a neurotransmitter in the central nervous system. It is implicated in a variety of physiological processes including diuresis, vasoregulation, and memory. Regulates water balance by antidiuretic action; contracts arterioles (vasopressor action).
- Preparation Note: [Arg8]-Vasopressin acetate salt dissolves water at 20 mg/ml to yield a clear colorless to faint yellow solution.
- Other Notes: Lyophilized from 0.5% acetic acid
