  • SIAT8-A is a single-pass type II membrane protein that is strongly expressed in melanoma cell lines, adult and fetal brain, and to a lesser extent in adult and fetal lung
  • It is involved in the production of gangliosides GD3 and GT3 from GM3
  • It catalyzes the transfer of sialic acid from CMP-sialic acid to GM3 to produce GD3 and GT3 in a successive manner
  • It is also involved in the pathway protein glycosylation
