- SLAMF-7 is a single-pass type I membrane protein that is expressed in spleen, lymph node, peripheral blood leukocytes, bone marrow, small intestine, stomach, appendix, lung and trachea
- Expression has also been detected in multiple myeloma cells, NK cells, activated B-cells, and NK-cell line, but not in promyelocytic, B-, or T-cell lines
- It serves as a receptor on immune cells, including natural killer (NK) cells
- SLAMF7 is reported to mediate both activating and inhibitory effects on NK cells, depending on the expression of adaptor EAT-2
- In cells lacking EAT-2 it mediates inhibition via SHIP-1, which is recruited via Tyr 261 of SLAMF7
