- Neurotensin (NT) is a tridecapeptide that acts as a neuromodulator in the CNS
- It also behaves as a hormone in the gastrointestinal tract
- Four different NTSRs have been reported
- NTSR1 and NTSR2 are seven-transmembrane G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs), while NTSR3 and NTSR4 are members of the sortilin protein family with a single-transmembrane spanning domain
- NTSR1 is a high affinity NT receptor and plays an important role in cancer cell proliferation, survival, mobility, and invasion
- NT has also been implicated in the pathophysiology of several CNS disorders, such as schizophrenia, drug abuse, eating disorders, and Parkinson’s disease.
