- General description: Methyl-β-cyclodextrin is a small cyclic heptasaccharide.[1]
- Application: Methyl-β-cyclodextrin has been used as a cholesterol chelator:to study its effects on mice cardiomyocytes[2]to study its effects on human corneal stromal fibroblasts[1]to study its effects on the junctophilin-2 (JPH2) pool[3]
- Biochem/physiol Actions: Methyl-β-cyclodextrin participates in increasing the permeability of cells. It also plays a role in depolymerizing the actin cytoskeleton in cells.[4] Methyl-β-cyclodextrin is involved in attracting cholesterol from the plasma.[5] It participates in activating extracellular receptor kinase in certain cells.[5]
