Description
- General description: NTF3 (neurotrophin 3) is a neurotrophic factor belonging to the NGF (nerve growth factor) family.[1] This protein is made up of 257 amino acids, with a prepro region of 138 amino acids and the mature sequence of 119 residues.[2]
- Application: Neurotrophin-3 human has been used in the magnetic sorting of oligodendrocyte progenitor cells.[3]
- Biochem/physiol Actions: Neurotrophin-3 (13.6 kDa or 27.2 kDa dimer) is a member of the neurotrophin family. It has identical amino acid sequence in human, mouse, and pig with full cross-reactivities. NT-3 is important in development and maintenance of neuronal populations and promotes differentiation of neural crest derived sensory and sympathetic neurons. It is critical for proprioceptive 1a afferent neurons, which relay information from peripheral muscle spindles to motoneurons, sending projections to spinocerebellar neurons. NT-3 is also critical in the superior cervical and nodose ganglia.
- Physical form: Lyophilized from a 0.2 m filtered solution in phosphate buffered saline (PBS) containing 50 μg of bovine serum albumin (BSA) per 1 μg of cytokine.
- Analysis Note: The biological activity is measured in a cell proliferation assay using a TrkB-transfected cell line BaF-TrkB-BD.
