Description
- General description: Dimyristoylphosphatidylcholine (DMPC) belongs to the phosphatidylcholine (PCs) family. It is composed of saturated and symmetric phospholipids with 14 carbon atoms.[1] DMPC is zwitterionic glycerophospholipid and is associated with mammalian membranes.[2]
- Application: 14:0 PC (DMPC) has been used:in the preparation of liposomes for dissipation monitoring[3] and perforin binding and assembly[4] by Quartz crystal microscopy studies.in anthraquinone liposomes generation for spectral studies[5]in bicelles preparation along with phosphatidylinositol 4,5-bisphosphate for in vitro reconstitution of β2-adrenergic receptor[6]
- Biochem/physiol Actions: Dimyristoylphosphatidylcholine (DMPC) in combination with cholesterol is used as biomembrane model.[2] Oral supplementation of DMPC in apolipoprotein (apo) E−null mice, improves high density lipoprotein levels and other lipid profiles, preventing the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis.[7]
