- General description: 18:0-20:4 Phosphatidylcholine (PC) has saturated (18:0) chain in the sn-1 position and unsaturated (20:4) in the sn-2 position. Asymmetric combinations of PC is common among mammalian lipids.[1] PC is a zwitterionic phospholipid. PC is synthesized by Kennedy pathway from choline.[2]
- Application: 18:0-20:4 PC is suitable for use:in the preparation of liposomes[1]in the synthesis of diacylglycerol[3]as substrate to determine the activity of phospholipase A2 (PLA2)[4]
- Biochem/physiol Actions: 18:0-20:4 phosphatidylcholine (PC) is more prominent in specialized membranes like synaptic vesicles.[1] Phosphatidylcholine is one of the major glycerophospholipids of the eukaryotic membranes. It is essential for maintaining the structure and functions of the membrane. PC is the precursor for various second messenger like phosphatidic acid, lysophosphatidic acid, diacylglycerol.[2]
