Description
- General description: Bis(monoacylglycerol) phosphate (BMP) is a phospholipid containing two-phosphate linked fatty acid esterified glycerol molecule.[1] It is present in late endosome, majorly in intraluminal vesicles (ILVs) and is hydrolyzed by BMP hydrolase.[1] BMP accounts to 15% of total organelle lipids.[2]
- Application: 18:1 BMP (S,S) may be used as an external standard for calibration in ultra performance liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS) and as an internal standard in liquid chromatography - tandem mass spectrometer (LC-MS) for quantification of lipids from tissues.[1]It may also be used in liposome preparation for dengue virus fusion studies.[3]
- Biochem/physiol Actions: Bis(monoacylglycerol)phosphate (BMP) plays a key role in cargo sorting[1] and protein and lipid trafficking.[2] The levels of BMP is elevated in lysosomal storage disorders (LSD) including Wolman disease, Niemann Pick disease and neuronal ceroid lipofuscinoses.[1] It is resistant to degradation by the enzyme, acid phospholipase.[3]
