Description

• Determine the ability of an organism to split indole from the tryptophan molecule with Thermo Scientific™ Remel™ BactiDrop™ Spot Indole
• Vracko and Sherris, in 1963 used indole-spot reagent for the presumptive separation of Proteus species and Escherechia coli1
• In 1969, Lowrance, Reich and Traub found ρ-dimethylaminocinnamaldehyde (DMACA) to be the most sensitive indole reagent which could detect 3 mcg of indole per milliliter of medium2
• BactiDrop™ Spot Indole is used to determine the ability of microorganisms to split indole from the tryptophan molecule by the spot test method
• Tryptophanases are intracellular enzymes that mediate indole production by hydrolysing the amino acid tryptophan
• This indole combines with DMACA to form a blue-green compound
