Thermo Scientific™ Desoxycholate Citrate Agar (Dehydrated)

Description

• Isolate and recover intestinal pathogens using Thermo Scientific™ Oxoid™ Desoxycholate Citrate Agar (Dehydrated)
• The medium is pale pink and clear
• Lactose fermenting organisms produce pink colonies and may be surrounded by a zone of precipitated desoxycholic acid
• The colonies of non-lactose fermenters are colorless, and due to their alkaline reaction, they are surrounded by a clear orange-yellow zone of medium
• Desoxycholate Citrate Agar is a modification of Leifson medium 1 , for the isolation and maximum recovery of intestinal pathogens
• It is less selective and inhibiting than Desoxycholate Citrate Agar (Hynes) CM0227
• Easy-to-read: provides an opaque background to easily discern the clearing produced by alkali-producing pathogens
• Preferable when shigellae are being sought as well as salmonellae 2
