Description

  • Selectively isolate and differentiate Pseudomonas aeruginosa from a range of samples using Thermo Scientific™ Oxoid™ Cetrimide Agar (USP, EP) (Dehydrated)
  • The medium contains magnesium chloride and potassium sulphate for improved pigment production and recovery of Pseudomonas aeruginosa while strongly suppressing Klebsiella , Proteus and Providencia spp
  • The medium conforms to European Pharmacopoeia for Microbial Limit Tests 1
  • Cetrimide Agar (USP, EP) is a modification of the original medium described by Brown and Lowbury 2 for the selective isolation and differentiation of Pseudomonas aeruginosa from a range of samples
  • Cetrimide is a quaternary ammonium compound with bactericidal activity against a broad range of Gram-positive organisms and some Gram-negative organisms
  • Pseudomonas aeruginosa forms fluorescent green colonies while the growth of Klebsiella, Proteus and Providencia is strongly suppressed
  • Enhanced pigment production aids identification Conforms to U.S
  • Pharmacopeia 3 and European Pharmacopoeia 1 standards for Microbial Limit Tests
  • The formulation is in line with the A.O.A.C
  • guidelines 4 for isolation of Pseudomonas aeruginosa from cosmetics and in A.O.A.C
  • method 5 for testing disinfectants on hard surfaces
  • Pseudomonas aeruginosa produces a number of water soluble iron chelators, including the yellow-green or yellow-brown fluorescent pyoverdin
  • When pyoverdin combines with the blue water-soluble pyocyanin, the bright green colour characteristic of Pseudomonas aeruginosa is created
  • The addition of magnesium chloride and potassium sulphate enhances the production of these chelators
