Description
- General description: The Visfatin Enzyme Immunoassay (EIA) Kit is an in vitro quantitative assay for detecting Visfatin peptide based on the principle of Competitive Enzyme Immunoassay.Visfatin, also known as nicotinamide phosphoribosyltransferase (Nampt)/ pre-B Cell colony enhancing factor is encoded by the gene mapped to human chromosome 7q22.3. The gene contains 11 exons encompassing 34.7kb.[1] The encoded protein is an adipocytokine secreted by visceral fat.[2]

- Biochem/physiol Actions: Visfatin has a role in mammalian nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD+) biosynthesis. Studies have shown that mice deficient in visfatin in the forebrain excitatory neurons show hyperactivity, diminished anxiety-like behaviors and impaired learning and memory.[5] It has also been shown that visfatin stimulates glucose uptake and adenosine monophosphate-activated protein kinase (AMPK) phosphorylation in mouse C2C12 skeletal muscle cells.[2] Visfatin regulates inflammation and insulin sensitivity.[3]
