Description
- General description: The ANP Enzyme Immunoassay (EIA) Kit is an in vitro quantitative assay for detecting ANP peptide based on the principle of Competitive Enzyme Immunoassay. EIA-ANP-1 targets the common sequence of human, mouse and rat, and thus may be used to detect ANP expression in all these species with high specificity and sensitivity.

- Application: Atrial Natriuretic Peptide EIA Kit has been used for the quantification of atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP) in cell culture.[1]
- Biochem/physiol Actions: Atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP) is a polypeptide hormone released in response to atrial dilation and it stimulates diuresis, natriuresis and vasorelaxation. ANP acts as an inhibitor of renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS) pathway.[3][4] It also has a major role in body fluid homeostasis and maintenance of blood pressure.[5] Binding of ANP to receptors on target cell stimulate the production of cyclic guanosine monophosphate (GMP).[3] Overexpression of ANP leads to congestive heart failure in the human.[6] Experimental studies show that ANP can be used as a therapeutic for stimulating angiogenesis in ischemic tissues.[7] N-terminal ANP prohormone functions as a biomarker for asymptomatic systolic left ventricular (LV) dysfunction, congestive heart failure and cardiovascular mortality.[8]
