- Stearoyl-CoA desaturase 1 (Scd1), in particular, is an FADS that catalyzes the synthesis of oleic acid by introducing a double bond between C9 and C10 from the carboxyl end of stearic acid
- Scd1 activity is essential for the earliest step of autophagosome formation, whose membrane has a high content of unsaturated fatty acids
