Description

  • General description: Interleukin-2 (IL-2) is an α-helical cytokine belonging to T-helper cell type 1. It has a molecular weight of 15kDa.[1] The IL2 gene is mapped to human chromosome 4q27.[1] IL-2 is originally called as T cell growth factor.[2]
  • Application: Interleukin-2 human has been used to culture peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC).[3] It has been used to activate effector cell (PBMC) and to study antibody-dependent cell-mediated cytotoxicity.[4]
  • Biochem/physiol Actions: Interleukin-2 (IL-2) is essential for proliferation of natural killer (NK) cells, lymphocytes and macrophages.[1] It plays a key role in the immune system functions such as NK cell-stimulated immune responses. IL-2 also mediates the formation[5] and essential functions of regulatory T cells. It is implicated in autoimmune disease.[6] IL-2 is associated with apoptosis and thus, possesses antitumor response.[5] IL-2 mediates CD41+ T-cells differentiation into T-helper cell 1 and 2 effector subsets, preventing T-helper 17 differentiation.[1]
  • Preparation Note: Human Interleukin-2 (IL-2) expressed in human HEK 293 cells is a glycosylated monomer with a molecular mass of 15 kDa. Production in human HEK 293 cells offers authentic glycosylation. Glycosylation contributes to stability in cell growth media and other applications.
  • Analysis Note: The specific activity was determined by the dose-dependent stimulation of the proliferation of mouse CTLL-2 cells (mouse cytotoxic T cell line).
