- General description: 24(S),25-epoxycholesterol is an oxysterol, which is produced by fibroblasts, macrophages and brain cells.
- Application: 24(S),25-epoxycholesterol has been used as an oxysterol/internalstandard to study the effects of AY9944-induced changes in neurospheres.
- Biochem/physiol Actions: Exogenous addition of 24(S),25-epoxycholesterol lowers 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl-Coenzyme A (HMG-CoA) reductase activity, represses sterol regulatory element-binding protein (SREBP) processing, and induces liver × receptor (LXR) -gene targets in vitro.
