Description
- General description: Phosphatidylcholine (PC), a major phospholipid is mostly found in the membrane of mammals. The headgroup of this bilayer-forming lipid carries a positively and negatively charged quaternary amine and a phosphate respectively.[1] 08:0 PC (1,2-dioctanoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine) is a saturated[2] synthetic short-chain phospholipid.[3]
- Application: 08:0 PC (1,2-dioctanoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine) has been used to form a lipid film to study its effect on P-glycoprotein′s (P-gp′s) activity/to compare its effect with TWEEN®80 and Cremophor®EL.[4] It may be used to study its effect on the nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NADH): n-decylubiquinone (DBQ) activity of complex I.[3] It may also be used as a bicellar model to study their phase behavior.[2]
