Description

• General description: 14:0 Cardiolipin is an acidic phospholipid.[1] Structurally, cardiolipin comprises three glycerol moieties and four acyl chains and is localized in the inner membrane of mitochondria.[2] 14:0 Cardiolipin contains four myristic acid as acyl chain.
• Application: 14:0 Cardiolipin (1′,3′-bis[1,2-dimyristoyl-sn-glycero-3-phospho]-glycerol (ammonium salt)) has been used: as a standard in tandem mass spectrometry[3]in the preparation of membrane proximal region (MPR) of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV-1) glycoprotein 41 (gp41)-lipopeptide conjugate and liposomes[4]as a component of micelle for suspending C8 ceramide substrate in ceramide kinase assay[5]
• Biochem/physiol Actions: Cardiolipin (CL) plays a key role in oxidative phosphorylation.[2] CL is essential for energy production and in the activation of apoptosis.[6] Deficiency of CL is associated with the development of diabetes and age-related heart failure. Anomalies associated with CL composition is observed in Barth Syndrome (BTHS).[2]
